The 2025 Mazda CX-70 is an interesting new SUV. It has the same size and platform as the CX-90, making it a midsize SUV, but something is missing.

The CX-70 offers drivers nearly everything that’s found in the CX-90, except the third-row seat. This two-row midsize crossover is a great choice for drivers who don’t need the rearmost row and want that area to only be used for cargo.

Changes to the interior
The biggest differences between Mazda’s largest SUVs can be found in the cabin area. The exterior and interior trim options are a little different, and the cargo area has been rearranged. It seems like Mazda could have simply offered the same nameplate with two seating configurations instead of two names, but that’s not what’s going on here.
The CX-70 brings blacked-out exterior trim to your driving experience, and there’s a different wheel deign than the CX-90, which make it a little different. Mazda has also added Amazon Alexa integration into this new SUV to give you the added connection desired. There’s also an underfloor storage compartment in the cargo area, which you won’t find in the CX-90 because of the third-row seats.
Two powertrains to get the job done
The Mazda CX-70 has two powertrain options, one of which is a plug-in hybrid setup. The non-hybrid models use a 3.3-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine that makes 280 horsepower in base models and 340 horsepower in the S trim. This engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, giving you smooth shifts and easy power. The regular CX-70 is rated at 23 city/28 hwy mpg for an economical drive.
If you choose the CX-70 Hybrid, you’ll have a four-cylinder engine and an electric motor generating 323 horsepower combined. This model is also attached to an eight-speed automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels to give you a smooth and easy drive. The PHEV setup allows the hybrid model to travel for 26 miles on electric power. This SUV also returns 24 city/27 hwy mpg, giving you a reasonable amount of fuel efficiency.
True Mazda interior design
Over the years, we’ve come to expect Mazda to provide us with plush materials and premium design elements in the cabin areas of its vehicles. Mazda SUVs typically have lots of features to keep you safe, comfortable, and entertained. The CX-70 has everything covered and can be a great choice for your driving needs. It has the same interior style as the CX-90, but it offers a red leather upholstery option for a sportier appearance.
Up front you see a 12.3-inch infotainment system, which is one of the largest screens offered in Mazda vehicles. This screen is not a touchscreen, which is probably the only real demerit for the SUV, but it can be controlled using a control knob. The Mazda CX-70 has standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with the option of Amazon Alexa integrated into the system. There’s also a 12.3-linch digital gauge display and a head-up display, but both of these screens are optional. If you choose the Premium trim, you’ll have a 12-speaker Bose audio system.

The CX-70 starts at $41,900 for the base Preferred trim with the low-power engine and goes up to $57,405 for the Turbo S Premium Plus model with 60 additional horsepower.

The CX-70 offers the same pleasant and premium midsize SUV experience as its CX-90 sibling but without the third row of seats. The S model provides extra power, which can be worth the upgrade to have more power for your drive.
